Research is an integral part of Higher Education. We have post-graduation departments recognised as Research Departments and qualified staff members as research guides. Hampi Kannada University has recognised the college as a Study Centre for its research programmes and recognised the qualified internal and external staff members as research guides.
The college encourages the staff members to apply for funded research projects and publications. Student Research Project instils research skills at the UG level. A compulsory paper on Research Methodology and a Dissertation provides research orientation to the students at the PG Level.

SDM Centre for Interdisciplinary Research in Humanities and Social Sciences (CIRHS), located on the SDM PG College, Ujire campus at SDM College functions as an institution that organises and facilitates research in the Social Sciences and Humanities. CIRHS aims at generating and supporting a world-class research culture within the SDM family of institutions. In order to reach this goal CIRHS takes up multiple camps, summer courses and conferences.
Peer-reviewed Multidisciplinary Biannual Research Journal SHODHA (ISSN 2249 – 0396) is published by Dr Ha Ma Na Research Centre of the College.
It is a unique academic exercise of the institution which aims at introducing the students to the scientific methods of research and analysis. It provides a platform for students to pursue a systematic study of topics of his / her interest under the guidance of teachers.
