Department of Kannada

Established in 1966

The objective of the department is to create awareness about Kannada language, literature and cultural tradition along with the inculcation of creativity and values of life. The department offers Kannada as a language to the undergraduate students and Kannada Literature as an optional subject in the B A Programme. Students receive practical-oriented learner centered trainings through seminars, workshops, conferences, field visits and creative writings.

Association & Activities

The department through the departmental association of “Kannada Sangha” encourages the students to participate in the activites such as literary, cultural and extension. The following activities are conducted by the leaders of the association with the guidance of staff members. Activities includes

  • Two days literary workshops with the help of NINASAM, Heggodu every year
  • One day seminar on life and writings of KUVEMPU with the help of Rastra Kavi Kuvempu Pratistana, Heggodu every year

Community Orientation

Katha Rachane and Kavana Rachana workshops  are the unique community oriented activities of the department.  Staff and students of the department are sent to nearby High Schools in every semester to train the students in creative writings.

MoU

The Department has signed an MoU with Ninasam ,Heggodu, Sagar, Shimoga Dist to share resources and infrastructure to conduct activities for the promotion of art, literature and culture among the youth every year (25-10-2010)
