Department of Biotechnology

The Department was established in the year 2007 with the objectives of providing postgraduate studies to explore the field and acquire an in-depth understanding of Biotechnology and carry out research activities in the relevant area. It offers M.Sc. in Biotechnology and Post Graduate Diploma in Fermentation and Bio Processing (BiSEP – Supported by DBT & Government of Karnataka). A first of its kind Flagship initiative by Dept. of IT, BT & Science & Technology,Government of Karnataka and supported by Dept. Of Biotechnology (DBT), Government of India, Recognized byAssociation of Biotechnology Led Enterprises (ABLE).

Thus, programmeprovides expertise in scientific learning along with skills to expedite various career paths in industrial processing, health care, agriculture, forensics and environment management. Updated curricula, advanced lab facilitates for studies and research initiatives provide a solid foundation for building a strong career in the future. The Plant Tissue Culture Laboratory of the department caters to the micro propagation of many endangered medicinal plants. Realistic approach in Genetic engineering, Molecular biology & Bioinformatics meet the current industrial demands

Highlights of the Department

  • Well-equipped laboratory with highly sophisticated instruments, dedicated & experienced faculties constantly pursuing extramural funding from national funding resources such as the DBT, VGST, UGC and other major sources from State Government and Government of India.
  • Good placement record over the years. MoU’s with various industries and Industrial Visits to boost student’s experimental and technical knowledge.

  • BiSEP efforts are towards channeling academic ability to meet industry requirements and expose students to latest happenings in the industry .UnderBiSEP we are offering unique job oriented Post graduate diploma in Fermentation and Bioprocessing supported by Dept of IT , BT and S&T GoK and DBT ,GoI.
