Established in 1966

The objective of the department is to provide quality education for professional careers in Commerce and Management. One of the first departments established by the college, offers B Com programme since its inception. The programme provides a strong foundation for the future professionals such as Chartered Accountants, Company Secretaries, Business Executives, Academicians and Entrepreneurs. Learner centred activities such as projects, group discussions, and presentations, quizzes and communicative sessions make the learning effective and yet blissful. The department motivates the students to clear CPT and provides Taxation as an area of specialisation.

Academic

The B.Com. program provides a strong foundation for the future professionals such as chartered accountants, company secretaries, business executives, academicians and entrepreneurs. The vast array of networked alumni has created a global presence for the last 5 decades.
Learner centred academic activities like Student Research projects, group discussions, presentations, quiz, interactive communicative sessions and mock tests conducted through commerce campus contributed for the focused learning to reach the professional destinations. The core courses offered includes financial accounting, cost and management accounting, financial management, direct taxes, GST and customs duty, marketing management, strategic management, organisational behavior, human resource management, business law and auditing spread over 6 semesters with languages, quantitative techniques and economics.

Commerce Campus Association, a place where the students aim at overall personality development. This is where the students develop leadership qualities, wisdom, job orientation skills and a lot more. This encourages the youth to participate in fests held in other colleges, engage in activities to strengthen their skills and improve for the betterment.

It is quite essential for them, who are able to use their tactics and withstand the obstacles in the corporate world.

Activities included are Commerce Fests, Debate, Discussions, Budget Analysis competitions, Trainings and many more. The objective of the Association is to encourage the students to stand for the challenges in the current business scenario and build self- confidence.

CCA inauguration was held on 30th July 2025 which took place in the Indraprastha auditorium at 3pm. The CEO Ms. Spandana M M welcomed the gathering and guest Mr. CS Ganesh Shenoy, practicing Company Secretary and Founder of SG Advisory Services was the inaugurator.

A brief introduction of the esteemed inaugurator was given, highlighting their achievements and his hard working journey. The guest addressed the gathering with motivational words and delivered an insightful guest talk about the “Embracing the future of Commerce : Trends and Opportunities.

PINNACLE-AN INTERCOLLEGIATE COMMERCE AND MANAGEMENT FEST

The Department of Commerce has been at the forefront of nurturing young managerial and entrepreneurial minds through its flagship Intercollegiate Commerce and Management Fest. Initiated in the academic year 2021-22, this annual fest has become a much-anticipated event for students across the Belthangady Taluk.

Organized by the students of B.Com, the fest provides a vibrant platform for the pre-university students of the region to explore, learn, and showcase their talents in various commerce and management domains. The participants engage in a wide range of competitions, both core and non-core, including Human Resource, Marketing, Finance, Event Management, Dance, Mad Ad, Quiz, and Videography. These activities are designed to bring out the students’ creativity, analytical thinking, teamwork, and communication skills.

VYAVAHAR – FIND YOUR OWN BUSINESS

The Department of Commerce organized ‘Vyavahar – Find Your Own Business’ on 1st January 2025 in the quadrangle. The event aimed to translate theoretical concepts of commerce into practical application, demonstrating how a business or entrepreneurial venture can be built from scratch and effectively marketed.
Department of Commerce has organized a Commerce Exhibition called Vyavahar 2K26. The department had given the opportunity for students to have practical exposure of enterprises. Vyavahar is a lively college business fair organized by B.Com students that turns students into entrepreneurs through a high-energy, hands-on marketplace experience. Ms. Arachana Pai opened the event and addressed the students on how to start a business, how to attract customers, how to run the business for a long time, how to make profits, etc. Participants get a lesson in the startup lifecycle by starting and running their own stalls, covering everything from strategic marketing and basic business setup to driving sales and handling intricate accounting. This immersive event provides a unique opportunity to apply principles learned in the classroom to real-world situations, emphasizing the subtleties of profit sharing and financial management while developing the professional grit required for the current industry.

The Department of Commerce organised a Walkathon on account of National Energy Conservation Day in association with NCC Army and Navy Wings of the college from Ujire to Dharmasthala on 14th December 2024. The students of III B.Com A, B, C & D participated in the Program. The event was coordinated by Dr. Bhanu Prakash B. E, Mr. Harish Shetty, Dr. Lakshminarayana K. S, Ms. Pavithra U. K and Ms. Sowmya Kumari of the department. A total of 240 students participated in the Walkathon.
The Department of Commerce organised a Road safety awareness Campaign on 29-1-2025 at Ujire Circle. Final year students participated in this program by participating in Jattha from the college to the Ujire Circle and there performed a Street play ‘Niyamaya Yake, Niyama Beke?. The pamphlets regarding road safety and traffic rules are distributed to the public to create awareness. Dr. Bhanu Prakash B P, Mr. Suman, Ms. Deekshitha Kumari was the staff coordinators for the program. Dr. Rathnavathi, Mr. Prasad Kumar was present during the program.
The Department of Commerce, Sri Dharmasthala Manjunatheshwara (Autonomous) Ujire, organized a Road Safety Awareness Programme on January 8, 2026. The programme started at SDM College, Ujire, under the leadership of Head Dr. Rathnavathi K, with the Principal in attendance. Approximately 200 commerce students actively participated in the event, fostering high engagement through visual aids like posters featuring helmets and road symbols reinforced the message.Chief Guest PSI Mr. Kishore P, highlighted the helmet usage, traffic rules adherence and safe driving practices during his speech.
Dr. Bhanuprakash BE Department of Commerce provided an interview for Radio Ninada on the topic Emergency fund on 25-02-2026, Interview carried out by Ms. Dharini & Mr. Prajwal of III B.Com.
Mr. Sachin Hebbar conducted an interview for Radio Nindada on the topic Swimming Day to Day to boosts individual concentration and Health was aired on 25-07-2026
