The ‘Towards a Healthy Society’ social responsibility program was launched under the ‘Gram Swaraj’ program of the Department of Political Science at SDM Autonomous College in Ujire on February 16. Hemavati, President of Tanniruphant Gram Panchayat, inaugurated the program by releasing a pamphlet.
Students visited the houses in the village and distributed pamphlets to create awareness about various issues such as Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, water conservation, voting, gender equality, participation in gram sabha, proper utilization of schemes, health, and many others.
Dr. Shalip Kumari A.P., Head of the Department of Political Science, SDM College, who spoke in the introductory address, said, “The Department of Political Science has been conducting the Gram Swaraj program for about 25 years continuously. The purpose of this program is to create awareness among the villagers about cleanliness, digital world and many other things.” Nataraj H.K., Bhagyashree, and Shivakumar, lecturers in Political Science at the college, and panchayat members and students were present.
