‘When Muddanna was promoted at Vanaranga’ An artistic portrayal of middle-classcomplexities

Vanaranga, newly built open theatre of SDM Educational institutions in Ujire, started its artistic journey with the innovative theatrical festival organized by Samuha cultural organization from December 9 to 12, 2019.Muddannana Promotion Prasanga (The Episode of Muddanna’s Promotion), was one among the staged plays which has effectively portrayed the middle-class complexities. The talented team of teaching and non-teaching staff representing SDM educational institutions was the center of attraction with the exclusive performance of social significance.

The skillful characteristic appearance of Dr Prasanna Kumar (Dept. of Samskrith), Tukaram Salian (Library), Harish Shetty (Dept. of Commerce), Naveen Kumar Jain (Dept. of Chemistry), Mahesh Kumar Shetty (Dept. of Economics), VijendraDevadiga (Dept. of Kannada), Sunil P.J (Dept. of Bio-Science), Smitha Bedekar and Vaidehi (Dept. of English) narrated the agonies of middle-class people and their struggle for the betterment of life. The play deals with the struggling path of an individual employee Muddanna, who is professionally enriched and having great belief in dedicated hard work. The play gets new dimension with the dramatic changes when Muddanna tries to get promotion by preferring un-ethical strategy. By the end, the play conveys significant message of professional ethical sensibility. The whole narrative visualized with the help of satirical and humorous touch.

It is written and directed by Rajendra Karanth who is renowned for his noble contributions to the theatre wing. Geetha Sulia’s musical composition extended the thematic impact of the play. The event was organized successfully with the blessings of DharmasthalaDharmadhikari Dr VeerendraHeggade, MatrushriHemavathiHeggade, guidance of SDM Institution Secretary Dr B Yashovarma and SDM College Principal Prof Sathishchandra S.
