“We should be aware and cautious users and consumers,” said Dr. A. Jayakumar Shetty, Principal SDM College.
He was speaking at an awareness program on consumer rights organized by the Department of Commerce in the college recently as part of the National Consumer Day celebrations.In earlier times, the interest of the trader was looked after rather than that of the consumer. There was no scope for consumer choice. But he said that after the Consumer Protection Act 1986 came into force, consumers also got importance in the market.
Head of Commerce Department Dr.Ratnavati K, she informed the students about the importance of Consumer Day and wished them good luck.
The students took a pledge to be “conscious consumers”. Later, in two teams, they tried to create awareness about consumer awareness among students in all classes of the college and people in Ujire town.
The program was conducted under the guidance of commerce Department Lecturer Prof. Bhanuprakash B.E. and Fatima Safira. Other lecturers of the department were present.Student Mahima Hebbar welcomed and narrated the program.
