Workshop on Midas Touch – An HR for New Generation

Department of PG Studies in Social Work had organized 3-day workshop on “Maidas Touch – An HR for New Generation” from 18/11/2021 to 20/11/2021. The workshop aimed at creating platforms for students not only to learn new aspects, others perspectives and latest information, but also to provide them a chance to interact with experts from the specific field and a good way of networking. By learning about new topics and meeting leaders in their field student feels encouraged and motivated. The Workshop was inaugurated by Kumar H P, HR and Mental Health Professional, Mecon Ltd, Bangalore. The introductory note of the workshop was given by Dr Ravishankar K R, HOD, Department of PG Studies in Social Work, SDM College, Ujire,    Dr Satheeshchandra S, Principal, SDM College, Ujire rendered presidential address. Dr Chitra B C & Mr Suveer Jain, Assistant Professors, Department of PG Studies in Social Work were the convenors of the programme.

Session I was handled by Mr Kumar H P, the Corporate Trainer and Mental Health professional, deliberated valuable discern about “Compensation & Benefits – Understanding, Designing and Application at Workplace”. He given insights on compensation operation mode, need for compensation, methods to determine compensation, salary structure, Labour laws impacting compensation and benefits along with practical Sessions on preparing CTC Breakup and solving crossword puzzles.

Session II was taken by Ms Madhushree S, Assistant Professor, Department of PG Studies and Research in Commerce, SDM College, Ujire oriented students on the topic “People’s Policy – Defining Relationship”. She delivered on different people’s policy in the organisations and carried related activities of it.

On 19.11.2021, Technical session III was by Mr Santhosh K, Asst Manager HR and Admin, Konkan Speciality Poly Products Pvt. Ltd, Mangalore, gave talk on “Trends of HR – A New Normal”. He oriented on the trends of artificial intelligence, diversity, gig economy, cloud-based HR tech, and productivity skills required for an HR. He also explained regarding how the human resource management has been changed from the traditional methods to modern strategic management and how Human Resource Information System has become an added advantage for an HR practioner.

Technical session IV was taken by Dr Veena Santhosh Rai, Associate Professor, Department of MBA, Srinivas Institute of Technology, Mangalore oriented on “The Factories Act 1948 and The Industrial Dispute Act 1947 – People’s Archive of Rural India”. The session highlighted the importance on chapters of health, safety and welfare of factories act, meaning of industrial disputes and settlement machineries

On 20.11.2021, Technical session Mr Santhosh Pai, Manager Human Resources, BASF India Limited, Mangalore gave intellect knowledge on “Industrial Relations – The Changing Workforce”. He educated the participants on CSR framework and policies of BASF. The resource person shared his work experience along with case studies. Few case studies were allotted to student groups forming various teams. Case study on employee absenteeism, employee negligence and employee abusive behavior was given for the teams. Practical orientation on drafting warning letter and show cause notice were taught depending on the case study.
