A one-day workshop on "Artificial Intelligence (AI) in the Field of Media" was organized by the Department of Journalism and Mass Communication at the SDM Postgraduate Centre, Ujire.
Dr. Udayashankar Puranik, Director of AI and Cybersecurity at Theta Dynamics, USA, served as the resource person. Speaking on the occasion, he emphasized that artificial intelligence is no longer a mere concept but a reality that influences the media industry significantly. He highlighted the growing application of AI in creative tasks, technology-driven processes, and decision-making.
Dr. B.A. Kumar Hegde, Principal of SDM College, noted the transformative changes taking place in media operations. He emphasized the need to adapt to these developments and pointed out that while AI has a profound influence across sectors, its integration must remain aligned with human sensitivity to build a healthy society.
Another resource person, Mr. Chetan Kumar, Senior Sub-Editor at Suvarna News, conducted a practical session on AI tools used in the media. He introduced students to AI-based software utilized by Kannada news channels and explained its application in journalism.
The event was attended by Dr. Vishwanath P., Dean of the Postgraduate Centre, and Dr. Bhaskar Hegde, Head of the Department of Journalism and Mass Communication. The workshop provided valuable insights into the role of AI in shaping the future of media.
