NSS Volunteers Help Farmers with Paddy Planting and Harvesting

The National Service Scheme (NSS) unit of SDM College in Ujire, Karnataka, organized paddy planting and harvesting programs in the villages of Arali and Dompadapalke on November 7. One team of 30 NSS volunteers planted seedlings in a one-acre field in Dompadapalke, under the guidance of the field owner, Sundar. Another team of 35 volunteers harvested paddy and separated the grain in a one-and-a-half-acre field in Arali, under the guidance of the farmer, Taranath.

The volunteers worked enthusiastically in the paddy fields, learning about paddy cultivation directly from the farmers. They also gained insights into the challenges and opportunities of agriculture today. The NSS program officers of SDM College, Prof. Deepa R.P. and Dr. Mahesha Kumar Shetty, H., provided guidance to the volunteers. Chemistry laboratory assistant Parameshwara provided necessary assistance and cooperation. The program was a valuable learning experience for the volunteers, and it helped them to connect with the local community.
