National Workshop on World Mental Health Day

Dr. C. R. Chandrashekhar, founder of the Centre for Mental Health and Wellness in Bengaluru, inaugurated a national workshop on World Mental Health Day at SDM College. In his address, he likened the body to a chariot, the self to the charioteer, and the five senses to the horses, with the mind as the reins that guide them. Dr. Chandrashekhar emphasized that many physical ailments stem from mental stress and that a happy body, mind, senses, and soul can alleviate physical troubles. He explained that around 80% of physical illnesses are a result of mental stress.

The event, organized by the Department of Psychology and the Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) of the college, focused on the theme "Mental Health and Counseling: Nurturing the Skills." Dr. B. A. Kumara Hegde, Principal of the college, presided over the event, and Dr. Vandana Jain, Head of the Psychology Department, extended a warm welcome. The program featured special lectures by Dr. Chandrashekhar on topics like "Brain and Behavior," "Managing Negative Emotions," and "Principles of Counseling." Students Varsa J. Vandis and Anupriya Ghosh hosted the event.

The workshop aimed to create awareness about the importance of mental health and the role it plays in overall well-being. Dr. Chandrashekhar’s insights shed light on the significance of maintaining a healthy body and mind, fostering a happier and healthier life.
