“Getting a degree is fantastic, but it is not enough. Competence is very different from a formal degree and all graduates must now grow beyond the curriculum”, said the Vice Chancellor of Mangalore University, Dr. P Subhrahmanya Yadapadithaya at the convocation ceremony of SDM College Ujire held on 04 October 2019. The event was held at Indraprastha auditorium in the presence of rank holders, students and parents of graduates.
“To embody the virtues of competence in a capsule, we can arrive at ‘KASHV’ which elaborates to Knowledge which must be domain specific and application oriented, Attitude where one embraces positivity, Skills which ensure that human resources are indeed resourceful, Habits that are carried to work space and Values which touch destinies more than valuables do,” Dr. Yadapadithaya added.
“Our approach has always been looking beyond the curriculum and this year we have enhanced the same. Ships are always safe in the harbour but they’re not built for it. Students too, must face the high sea and give their education a sense of worth”, said the President of SDME Society and Dharmadhikaari Dr. D Veerendra Heggade, presiding over the event.
UGC sponsored professional courses under the names B.Vocational in Retail and Supply Chain Management, Digital Media and Film Making, and Software and App Development were inaugurated at the event. Dr. B Yashovarma, Secretary of SDME Society elaborated the importance of practical orientation in curriculum and the same approach employed in B.Vocational courses.
Rank holders of each stream and class were felicitated at the occasion and all graduates were handed over the degree. An oath of righteousness was administered by the founding Principal of the college Prof. Prabhakar.
The Registrar of SDM College Ujire, Dr. BP Sampath Kumar presented the institutional overview. Principal Prof. Sateeshchandra welcomed the gathering. The Dean of PG Studies, Ganapayya delivered the vote of thanks.
