The Department of PG Studies and Research in Chemistry, under the banner CONCHEM, the department association, had organized an insightful ‘preliminary workshop on fabrication of glassware’ on 20 April 2023. The resource person wasSri A. Rajendran, a specialized glassblower from the Department of Chemistry, Mangalore University.Ms. Bindhya MG from I MSc Organic Chemistry gave a brief introduction of the guestfollowed by an introductory noteon how beneficial this workshop is to the students,by Dr. Vishwanatha P,Dean, PG Studies and Head of the Department.Sri Rajendranfamiliarized the audience on handling of different kinds of glass apparatus and their nature.He took over a variety of tasks such as capillary formation, smoothening of sharp cut edges of broken glass apparatus so as to reuse it and fabrication of bent tubes, T-joints etc. using different glass blowing techniques. A few of the students actively volunteered in learning different techniques of glass blowing.The program was coordinated by Dr. Sowmya B P and Dr. Nefisath P, Assistant Professors of the department. Ms. Supriya K from I MSc Organic Chemistry welcomed the gatheringand Ms. Prajna S K from I MSc Chemistry narratedthe program.Session ended with a vote of thanks proposed by Ms. Shruthi V S from I MSc chemistry.By this workshop, the association believes that the students are left with eagerness on various methods of handling the glassware.
