The Chemistry Department of SDM Postgraduate Centre achieved a significant milestone by securing three prestigious U.S. patents this year for groundbreaking research in pain relief and tuberculosis treatment.
Assistant Professors Dr. Nafeesath P. and Dr. Shashiprabha conducted innovative studies leading to these accolades. Their first patent was awarded for research on “Benzylidene Derivatives of Phenobarbital as Anti-Inflammatory Agents.”
The second patent focused on “Oxazolidine Derivatives as Anti-Tubercular Agents,” detailing formulations to combat tuberculosis. Recently, their work on a chemical compound pivotal to tuberculosis treatment, titled “Cyano Isobutoxy Phenyl N-Substituted Benzylidene Methyl Thiazole Carbohydrazides,” earned the third U.S. patent.
The research was conducted under the guidance of Dr. Jagadish Prasad D. from Mangalore University. SDM Educational Society Secretary Dr. Satishchandra S., College Principal Dr. B.A. Kumar Hegde, and Dean Dr. Vishwanatha P. lauded the achievement and congratulated the researchers.
