Internal Quality Assurance Cell of the College in association with Pilikula Regional Science Centre, Mangaluru organized a webinar series on ‘Basic Sciences’, targeting teachers, high school students and general public with aim to promote basic science and orient students towards basic science. It was inaugurated by Dr. Satheeshchandra S., Principal, SDM College (Autonomous), Ujire on 22 January 2021. The first webinar in the webinar series was organized by Department of Biotechnology on the topic Gene & Genetics. The resource person for this webinar was Dr. K. R. Maruthi Assistant Professor, Department of Biotechnology, SDM College Ujire. Dr. Sateeschandra S., Principal SDM College Ujire gave an introductory note after which the resource person delivered a talk on how genes play a role in controlling the traits and scope of genetics. Department of Physics organized a webinar on 25 January by Dr. A. P. Radhakrishna, Associate Professor & Head, Department of Physics, St. Philomena College, Puttur and he enlightened the audience with the topic ‘Kappu randhragala vismaya loka’. It followed a webinar on ‘Math Magic – Improving Mathematical Skills’ by Dr. Pradeep CR, Former Scientist, IISc on 27 January, organized by Department of Mathematics. Department of Physics organized another webinar on the topic ‘Nuclear Energy – Boon or Bane to the Mankind’ by Dr. Sripathi Punchithaya, Professor of Physics, NIE, Mysore on 28 January which followed another webinar, organized by Department of Chemistry on ‘Chemistry in Daily Life’ by Dr. Babitha K. S., Associate Professor, Department of Biophysics, Manipal School of Life Sciences, Manipal on 29 January. Department of Botany organized a webinar on the topic ‘Amazing World of Plant’ by Dr. B. A. Kumara Hegde, Head, Department of Botany, SDM College, Ujire on 1 February and Department of Physics organized a its third webinar on the topics, ‘Infinity in Numbers’ by Prof. T. N. Keshava, Former Principal , SDM College, Ujire on 2 February 2020. Department of Biotechnology organized a second webinar on the topic ‘Biotechnology for Social Welfare’ by Mr. Abhijith Bediger Assistant Professor, Department of Biotechnology, SDM College, Ujire on 3 February 2021 and Department of Botany organized another webinar on the topic ‘Unifying Concepts of Biology’ by Mr. Ganesh Shendye, Assistant Professor, Department of Botany on 4 February 2021.
The webinar series was concluded on 4 February 2021 by a valedictory note, delivered by Dr. K. V. Rao, Director, Pilikula Regional Science Centre, Mangaluru. Dr. Satheeshchandra S., Principal, SDM College (Autonomous), Ujire presided over the programme and Sri. S. N. Kakathkar, Head of the Department of Physics & Coordinator of the webinar series, proposed vote of thanks. Ms. Namratha, Assistant Professor, Department of Physics, was the master of ceremony. Webinar series was organized through Google Meet and nearly 100 participants participated in all the webinars organized.
