Established in 1966
The department was established with a broad vision to train learners in language skills and literary studies. It offers 4 English Language Courses to BA/BSc/BCom/ BCA/BBA Programmes; 4 Additional English courses to the foreign students; 4 language skills courses to BVoc programmes and 6 English Literature Courses in BA Programme. It also offers Open Elective Courses and a couple of certificate courses to enhance the knowledge and skills. Thrust areas of the department for research are Indian Writing in English, English Language Teaching, Translation Studies and Cultural Studies. The faculty members of the department have successfully carried out 5 UGC Funded Minor Research Projects. The department emphasises experiential learning through community orientations, training programs, certificate courses, wall magazines, guest lectures and literary appreciation programs. The subject association is a platform for the students to hone their skills and competencies through all co-curricular activities such as writing, speaking and reading. School Adoption is a unique programme of the Association and under this programme students visit neighbourhood adopted schools and teach English to the students. For peer group interaction the department has signed an MoU with a few prestigious institutions.
