The Department of Kannada and Department of Journalism in association with Karavali wikimedians organised one day workshop, Sthaliya bhashe mattu samskruti samrakshane on 24th January 2026. The programme was inaugurated by the college’s retired Principal, T. N. Keshava. In his address, he emphasized that the protection of language and culture is of paramount importance. In order to study ancient evidence, reliance is often placed on Greek and Latin sources, as we have lagged behind in systematic information collection and documentation. He observed that earlier the preparation of a document would take nearly a month, whereas today information can be gathered within moments, largely due to the availability of platforms such as Wikipedia. Ms. Nanda kumari K.P. Vice- Principal SDM college Ujire, presided over the programme. Mr. Shailesh Kumar, HOD, Department of Computer Science, was a guest of honour. Dr.Vishwanatha Badikana, president, Karavali wikimedians user group, Mangalore, were the resource person’s. Mr.Bharathesh Alasande Majalu and Ms.Yakshita, member of Karavali wikimedians user group, They guided the students how to correct errors found in content published on Wikipedia and how to upload information on new topics was provided to the students through a training session. Dr. Bhaskara Hegde, HOD, Department of Journalism,Dr Bojamma K. N, HOD, Department of Kannada were present during the programme. 60 students of SDM college Ujire befitted from this programme.
