The three-day Mangalore University Inter-Collegiate Men’s Volleyball Tournament (2025-26), organised jointly by SDM College, Ujire, and the Department of Physical Education, Mangalore University, was inaugurated today at the Ratnavarma Heggade Sports Complex, Ujire.
Dr. Satishchandra S., Secretary of SDM Educational Society, emphasized that sports not only promote physical fitness and mental balance but also instill discipline, patience, team spirit, and self-confidence, making it an integral part of life rather than just a recreational activity.
Chief guest Dr. John Pinto, retired Director of Physical Education, Government First Grade College, Halenagady, encouraged students to actively participate in sports for physical well-being, even if they cannot compete at national or international levels.
Presiding over the event, Principal Dr. Vishwanatha P. highlighted the role of sports in developing discipline, time management, and leadership skills. He noted that six SDM College students have received the prestigious Ekalavya Award, while four have represented the country in Commonwealth Games and Pro Kabaddi League, reflecting the college’s strong sports infrastructure and student dedication.
Physical Education Directors Ramesh H. and Sharada were present. The programme was compered by Dr. Suveer Jain.
