Ujire, July 25 — “There is a noticeable decline in the number of people writing about science in newspapers. Science students must pay attention to this area and contribute actively,” said Dr. Bhaskar Hegde, Dean of the Arts Faculty and Head of the Department of Journalism at SDM College, Ujire. He was speaking at the inauguration of the academic activities of the Department of Statistics and the Sankhya Association for the current academic year.
Dr. Hegde emphasized that while there is growing discourse in many academic fields, contributions from science and commerce backgrounds in public writing remain minimal. “Even science experts often hesitate to write. Students should make use of the many opportunities that exist in science communication,” he added.
Dr. Savita Rao, Dean of the Science Faculty and Head of the Department of Statistics, presided over the function and shared insights into the department’s activities.
The latest edition of the department’s wall magazine Sankhya was also released during the event.
Also present on the dais were faculty member Manjula, Sankhya Association President Hajira, and Secretary Madhura.
The program began with a prayer by Nikita and her team. Pratiksha delivered the welcome address, Bhumika gave the vote of thanks, and the event was compered by Nitya Jain.
