The Department of Mathematics of Sri Dharmasthala Manjunatheshwara (Autonomous) College, Ujire, in association with IQAC, organised a One-Day National Seminar on “Parampara to Pragati: Indian Knowledge Traditions in Mathematics and Science for Viksit Bharat” at the Samyagdarshana Auditorium, under the guidance of Dr. Satish Chandra S., Secretary, SDM Educational Institutions.
The seminar was inaugurated by Dr. Ajith Hebbar Hossamath, Professor and Senior STEM Mentor, Vivekananda College of Engineering and Technology, Puttur. He highlighted the importance of mathematics and science in India’s knowledge traditions and said that mathematics is an integral part of nature. He stressed the need to preserve India’s traditional knowledge and introduce it to the younger generation to support the vision of a Viksit Bharat.
Presiding over the programme, Prof. Vishwanatha P., Principal, said mathematics develops logical thinking and problem-solving skills and forms the foundation of science, engineering, technology and research.
He added that such seminars provide students and research scholars with opportunities to exchange ideas and gain new research perspectives. Recommendations emerging from the discussions will be submitted to the concerned authorities.
Dr. Venkateshwara Pai R. of IISER Pune and Dr. Harsha A. J., Associate Professor, Vidyavardhaka College of Engineering, Mysuru, were felicitated on the occasion.
Prof. Ganesh Nayak B., Head of the Department of Mathematics and Controller of Examinations, was among the dignitaries present at the programme.
Also present were Prof. Nanda Kumari, Vice Principal; Prof. Sridhara N. Bhat, Administrative Registrar; Prof. Gajanana R. Bhat, IQAC Coordinator; and Dr. Soumya B. P., Dean, Postgraduate Centre.
Prof. Ganesh Nayak B. welcomed the gathering. Mr. Dikshith compered the programme, Ms. Akshatha B. proposed the vote of thanks, and Ms. Nishmitha M. assisted in organising the event. Students, research scholars and faculty members from various institutions participated.
