Webinars and Motivational Talks

• Department of Mathematics and Sanskrit in association with IQAC  organized One Day National Conference on “Ganita-Samskrita Sangama “ on 24 September 2025
• Department of Mathematics and IQAC in association with Manipal Institute of Technology organized One Day National Seminar on “Computational Mathematics: in Navigating Complex Real World Issues” on 29 August 2024.
• One day National seminar was organized on “Scientific Heritage of India” in association with Dept. of Physics, Dept. of Sanskrit, and Centre of Excellence for Indian Knowledge Systems, IIT Kharagpur with support of AICTE-IKS division New Delhi, Physics Teachers association of Mangalore University on 26 February 2024.
• Organized a webinar on "Mathematics and Common Sense" in association with   Pilikula Regional Science Centre, Mangalore, on 9 December 2022.
• Hosted a motivational talk on "Indian Culture and Its Significance in Real Life" by Mr. Thirumalesh Rao N. K on 3 November 2022 under the SDM Social Responsibility Initiative.
• Under MoU  the Department of Mathematics organized a webinar on “Algorithms and Mathematics” in Association with the Department of Mathematics, St. Joseph Engineering College, Mangaluru on 12 February 2022 in Online mode.
• Arranged a program on "Bhagavad Gita and Life Values" by Dr. Ramachandra Purohit, Assistant Professor, Department of Sanskrit, on 13 December 2021 as a part of its social responsibility efforts.

 Workshops and Skill Development
The Department of Mathematics organized a one-day workshop on “Visualization of Mathematical Concepts through GeoGebra” on 30 January 2026. The programme was conducted under the MoU activity.
Dr. Ramananda H.S., Associate Professor, and Ms. Shivani S., Assistant Professor, from the Department of Mathematics, St. Joseph Engineering College, Vamanjoor, Mangaluru, served as the resource persons and effectively demonstrated the use of GeoGebra for visualizing mathematical concepts.
Around 35 B.Sc students actively participated and benefited from the workshop.

• The department organized one day workshop course on “Computer Applications” from 18-22 January2025 to all BSc students. Ms. Deepa R P, Assistant Professor, Dept. of Computer Science inaugurated the program
• On 10 February 2024  a workshop on “ Know about-M.S.Word “ was organized in Computer Lab. Mr. SatheeshChandra P.D was the Chief Guest of the Programme, he emphasized the importance of the computer skills in getting an employed in IT Industry.
• Conducted a 20-day workshop on Python programming to enhance technical skills.
• Organized a “One-Day Workshop on Mathematics and Origami” for B.Sc. students on 7th March 2013.
• Conducted a one-day program for National Mathematical Year (NMY) 2012 on 14 December 2012.
• Hosted a district-level workshop, "Unique Workshop for 8th to 10th Std Students of Belthangady, Puttur, and Bantwal," on 9 February 2012.

Student Engagement and Community Outreach

• The Department of Mathematics organized an extension activity at SDM  P U College, Ujire on, Avenues after B.Sc  and Application of Mathematics in real life,  on 24 January 2026. Mr. B. Ganesh Nayak and Ms. Akshatha B, Assistant Professors, addressed the students during the programme. The programme also included an awareness session on Say No to Plastic and Responsible use of social media by Ms. Bhoomika of II BSc and Ms. Harhitha M S of III BSc. Also conducted quiz for the II PU Science students by the III BSc students Fathima Rafa and Esha.  Around 200 students of SDM P U College, Ujire benefited from the programme.
• The Department of Mathematics organized an extension activity at Govt. P U College, Belthangady on,  Career opportunities in pursuing B.Sc  and Application of graph theory in real life,  on 14 January 2026. Mr. B. Ganesh Nayak and Ms. Akshatha B, Assistant Professors, addressed the students during the programme. The programme also included an awareness session on Cyber Security by the III BSc students Ms. Shobhitha and Ms. Shazna Rafthana. The students of Govt. P U College, Belthangady benefited from the programme.
• Mr. B. Ganesh Nayak has delivered a talk on “Mathematics application in Real Life” as a part of “Expand Lecture Series” at SDM Secondary High School, Ujire on 30 December 2024.
• Ms. Akshatha B has delivered a talk on “Matrices and its applications in daily life” as a part of  “Expand Lecture Series” at SDM Secondary High School, Ujire on 30 December 2024 
• Ms. Akshatha B has delivered a talk on “History of Graph Theory and it’s Applications in Real Life” as a part of “Expand Lecture Series” at SDM High School, Belal on 19 December 2024.
• Mr B. Ganesh Nayak has delivered a talk on “Easy Mathematics” on 3 November 2023 as a part of share lecture series programme arranged to SDM Kannada Medium  School, Dharmasthala.
•  Mr B. Ganesh Nayak has delivered a talk on ‘Easy -Math Techniques’ to Government High School students of Badanaje village, Belthangady Taluk under Share lecture series programme on 23 December 2021.
• B.Sc. students gave a demonstration on mathematical models to pupils of SDM State English Medium School, Ujire, on 24 July 2020.
• Conducted a guest talk on “Application of Matrices” by Ms. Akshatha, B., for 8th Std. students of SDM Kannada Medium School, Belal, on 18th February 2020.
• Mr. B. Ganesh Nayak has guided high school students in preparing three mathematics projects under the "SDM Incubator Program" from 31 March to 5 April 2017.

 Expert Sessions

• The Department of Mathematics celebrated the National Mathematics Day on 6 January 2026. Mr. Vrikshavardhan N Hebbar, Research Scholar, National Institute of Engineering, Mysuru was the chief guest of the programme. Around 70 students benefited from the programme.
• A Career Guidance programme organized on “Future Prospectus and Industrial scope in jobs on pursuing Post graduation in Statistics “ by Mr. Pradeep K   to  B.Sc students on 25 March 2025
• A Career Guidance programme on “Career opportunities in B.Ed -Future Prospectus" organized by the Mathematics Department to B.Sc students.Mr. Thirumalesh N. K Assistant professor SDM Education College Ujire delivered a talk on opportunities available in the course and future prospectus of the course. Ms Priyadarshini Assistant Professor of SDM D.Ed College and two B. Ed students shared their experience on it on 13 March 2025
• Organized a career guidance programme on “Building a Winning Resume”. The Resource Person Mr. Ashwith H.R, HOD of B.VoC & Supply Chain Management guided the students how to format the resume in effective way on 04 March 2025
• Organized a guest lecture on " The Role of Mathematics in Civil Engineering" by Dr. Raveesh Padumale  Head and Associate Professor of  Civil  dept, SDMIT, Ujire on 24 December 2024
• Organized a guest lecture on "Application of Mathematics in Engineering and Real Life" by Dr. Sandeep R, Professor, Dept. of ECE, SDMIT, Ujire on 12  July 2024.
• Organised a guest lecture on “Matheamtics is  the Language of Universe” by Dr. Harsha A.J  Assistant Professor in Mathematics, St. Joseph Engineering College, Vamanjoor, Mangaluru, on the eve of National Matheamtics Day celebration on 12  February 2024.
• Organized the a Guest Lecture on “ Application of Mathematics in Engineering” by Dr. Subrahmanya Bhat, Assistant Professor, SDMIT College, Ujire on 01 September 2023.
• Organized guest lecture by Prof. T. Prakash Prabhu on the topic “Maths, Music and Fun” was organized on 26 November 2021.
• Hosted a guest talk by alumnus Mr. Narashima Shenoy, Senior Principal Engineer at Collins Aerospace, Bangalore, on "The Relevance of Mathematics in Industry" on 7 December 2019.
• Inaugurated the “SIGMA Association” with a guest lecture on "Number Theory – Results on Quotient Residues" by Dr. Shivaraj Kumar from NIT Mysore on 10 July 2019.

Special Initiatives and Add-on Courses

• On 10 February 2024 a Workshop on “Know about- Google Suit “was organized in Computer Lab. Mr. SatheeshChandra P.D was the Chief Guest of the Programme.

• Organized one-day workshop “Learn Math through Origami” to commemorate the birth anniversary of Srinivasa Ramanujan, where Dr. Adelaide D’sa demonstrated constructing mathematical models through paper folding on 22  December 2022.
• Conducted an add-on course on SCILAB & MAXIMA for B.Sc. students on 8 January 2020, where 25 students successfully completed the program under the guidance of Ms. Akshatha, B., and Ms. Poojitha Varma Jain
