Arjuna Award-winning athlete and Olympian M.R. Poovamma emphasized that defeats and victories nurture an indomitable spirit, making life more beautiful. Speaking at the Annual Sports Meet of SDM College, held at the Sri D. Ratnavarma Heggade Stadium, Poovamma inaugurated the event and shared her insights on perseverance and determination.
“Winning and losing are part of every competition. Setbacks should be seen as challenges that pave the way for success through continuous effort,” she said. Reflecting on her own journey, she mentioned the special significance of the Ratnavarma Heggade Stadium in her career. She also fondly remembered her coach, Vasant Hegde, for providing the right guidance during the early stages of her sporting journey, which helped her gain recognition at the international level.
College Principal Dr. B.A. Kumar Hegde addressed the gathering, stressing the importance of maintaining physical, mental, and spiritual strength to overcome life’s challenges with ease. During the event, Poovamma was honored for her remarkable achievements. Additionally, Gagan Gowda, who brought glory to the college through his participation in the Pro Kabaddi League, was also felicitated.
