Under the ‘Grama Swaraj’ initiative, the Political Science Department of SDM College, Ujire, launched the ‘Be Aware – That’s the Goal’ social responsibility campaign at the Charmadi Gram Panchayat. The event was inaugurated by Gram Panchayat President Sharada Aniyoor.
As part of the campaign, students conducted door-to-door visits to raise awareness on critical issues such as waste management, the importance of voting, and the benefits of digital payments. An awareness pamphlet was also released on this occasion. Speaking at the event, Panchayat Development Officer Purushottam stated, “Our Panchayat had envisioned an initiative where information could be shared directly with the public. This has now materialized through the efforts of the prestigious SDM College.” He further emphasized the importance of community participation in village development programs and expressed the need for continued collaboration with the college for future initiatives.
Head of the Political Science Department, Nataraj H.K., highlighted the significance of grassroots development, saying, “Government initiatives begin in villages. When villages prosper, the nation grows. This program aims to raise awareness in every household about reducing plastic usage and fostering village development.”
The event was also attended by Panchayat Secretary Kunj, members of the Panchayat, and Assistant Professors of the Political Science Department, including Bhagyashree, Shivakumar P., and Kiran Jain, alongside enthusiastic student participants. Supritha M.S. welcomed the gathering, Harshitha M.K. delivered the vote of thanks, and Manasa anchored the event.
