The ‘Arboretum’ (botanical garden) at SDM College, known for its rare plant species, was renamed as ‘Yashovana’ in memory of Dr. B. Yashovarma, a distinguished educationist, environmentalist, and former Secretary of Institutions. The inauguration ceremony took place 30th of March evening.<
Dr. M. Mohan Alva, President of Alva’s Education Foundation, unveiled the entrance gate of the Arboretum, which is designed in the Indonesian style, featuring the concept of ‘Gateway to Heaven’. Alongside, Dr. P. L. Dharma, Vice-Chancellor of Mangalore University, unveiled the ‘Yashovana Green Zone’ plaque. Dr. Hemavathi V. Hegde from Dharmasthala inaugurated the information plaque card related to Yashovana.
The program was chaired by Dr. D. Veerendra Hegde, Dharmadhikari of Sri Kshetra Dharmasthala and President of SDM Educational Institutions, who, in his address, analyzed the significance of ‘Yashovana’ as a crucial step towards the realization of the dream of rejuvenation. Saplings were distributed symbolically to Pradeep, Prakash, and students involved in the maintenance of Yashovan.
Among the dignitaries present were Dr. Pratap Simha Nayak, Dr. Harshendra Kumar, Dr. Sathishchandra S, Secretarys of SDM Educational Institutions; and Sonia Varma from ‘Ninada’; K.N. Janardhana, Director of Siri, Mr Pooran Varma CEO of IT and Hostel Administration at SDM Educational Institutions. Dr. B.A. Kumar Hegde, Vice Principal of SDM College, welcomed the gathering. Dr. Sridhar Bhatt, Head of the Sanskrit Department, coordinated the event and offered his respects.
