In a recent workshop held at the SDM Post Graduate Centre, Cyber Crime Division Dy. SP Manjunath R.G. highlighted the increasing prevalence of cyber crimes that exploit people’s emotions and advanced technologies. He expressed concern over the surprising number of educated individuals falling victim to these scams.
The workshop, organized by the B.Voc Digital Media and Film Making, Retail and Supply Chain departments in collaboration with Belthangady Rotary and Mangalore Cyber Crime Prevention Squad, aimed to educate students on the dangers of cyber crimes. Manjunath R.G. emphasized the need for caution when using digital devices, links, and OTPs. He noted that tracking down perpetrators is often difficult and recovering lost assets is challenging, making public awareness the best preventive measure. Another officer, Manjunath, spoke about the importance of raising public awareness about cyber fraud. He announced that this workshop was the first in a series planned for all regions of Dakshina Kannada, and urged students to share this knowledge within their communities.
Belthangady Rotary President Pooran Varma stressed the necessity of understanding cyber crimes and frauds, commending the initiative for its educational value. Dr. B.A. Kumar Hegde, Principal of SDM College, presided over the event. He remarked on the pervasive influence of mobile phones on daily life and urged students to avoid unethical practices and focus on building a morally sound life. Dr. P. Vishwanath, Dean of the Post Graduate Centre, along with B.Voc faculty members and students, attended the workshop. The event was anchored by Ashwini Jain and coordinated by Praveen D.
