Ramesh H., Secretary of the SDM Sports Association, Ujire, emphasized the importance of physical activity and urged young people to engage more in sports to reduce the risk of heart attacks caused by a lack of exercise. He was speaking as the chief guest at the National Sports Day celebration organized by the National Service Scheme (NSS) units at SDM College, Ujire, on August 29.
Ramesh highlighted the need for regular exercise, particularly for the youth, in light of modern dietary habits and lifestyles. "Engaging in sports from the age of 18 ensures the necessary physical exercise, which is crucial for maintaining good health," he said.
Dr. B.A. Kumar Hegde, Principal of SDM College, who presided over the event, discussed the role of sports in building resilience. He noted that the excessive use of mobile phones among youth is detrimental to their physical health and creativity. "Physical activities like sports and exercise help maintain a balance in our health and enhance our ability to compete in all stages of life," he added.
NSS Program Officer Dr. Mahesh Kumar Shetty H. also spoke, highlighting the positive impact of sports on life and the commendable support the Indian government has been providing for sports, leading to improved performances in international events like the Olympics. The event was attended by NSS Program Officer Deepa R.P. and several volunteers. The program began with a welcome by volunteer Pooja Shri, who also compered the event, and Kavita delivered the vote of thanks.
