Understanding History Prevents Repetition of Mistakes, Says Dr. Pramod M.G.

Ujire, July 18 — “When we understand the mistakes of history, we are less likely to repeat them,” stated Dr. Pramod M.G., Head of the Department of History at Vivekananda College, Puttur, while inaugurating the academic activities and History Association for the academic year at SDM College (Autonomous), Ujire.

Addressing the gathering, Dr. Pramod emphasized that history remains alive through the evidence it leaves behind. “History cannot be artificially created—it must be uncovered through facts and records. Students should develop a curiosity to explore the history behind everything around them. It is their responsibility to carry historical knowledge from one generation to the next,” he said.

Presiding over the event, Dr. Sanmathi Kumar, Head of the Department of History at SDM College, encouraged students to perform their duties with dedication, without being overly focused on outcomes. “Success will find you when you commit to your work sincerely,” he added.

During the program, first-year students Shubha and Bhavya were honored for securing the highest marks in History in the II PUC examinations.

The latest edition of the department’s wall magazine Anveshane was also unveiled. Assistant Professor Abhijna Upadhyaya, student representatives Gauravi and Manvith, and several students were present at the ceremony.

The program began with a prayer by Sushmitha and Srushti. Gauravi welcomed the gathering, Padmashree proposed the vote of thanks, and the event was compered by Srushti and Preethi.
