Ujire: A tribute programme and student seminar on noted novelist Dr. S. L. Bhyrappa was organized on October 16 at SDM College, Ujire, under the joint auspices of the Department of Kannada, Dakshina Kannada District Kannada Sahitya Parishat, Belthangady Taluk and Hobli units of the Parishat.
Speaking at the inauguration, Principal Dr. Vishwanath P. said, “The culture and values of our nation have survived because of literature, and writers like Dr. S. L. Bhyrappa have played a vital role in preserving it. His thoughts and writings continue to inspire generations.”
Writer and Bank of Baroda Noojibalthila Branch Manager Shivaprasad Surya offered floral tributes and spoke about Dr. Bhyrappa’s captivating writing style, urging students to read his works. Dr. Bhaskar Hegde, Dean of the Arts Faculty, also addressed the gathering.
Presiding over the function, Dr. M. P. Srinath, District Kannada Sahitya Parishat President, remarked that Bhyrappa’s literary influence extends beyond states and nations. “He lived a disciplined, simple life without modern distractions and deeply cared for students,” he noted.
Students Amrutha, Sanketh, Pavan, Kavana, Rangaswamy, Chaitanya, Swapna, and Rachana presented papers on Bhyrappa’s novels such as Dharmashree, Jalapata, NayineraLu, Tabbaliyu Neenade Magane, Nirakarana, Aavarana, Vamshavriksha, and Gruhabhanga.
The event was attended by Dr. Divakar Kokkada (President, Belthangady Hobli Sahitya Parishat) and Dr. Bojamma K. N. (Head, Department of Kannada, SDM College). D. Yadupati Gowda, Taluk Parishat President, welcomed the gathering. Student Pranamya proposed the vote of thanks, and Amrutha compered the programme.
