The Department of PG Studies and Research in Social Work organized a five-day Social Work Camp from 20.04.2026 to 25.04.2026 at Hunsur Taluk, Mysore District, in association with DEEDS Organization, Hunsur for first year MSW students. The camp primarily focused on engaging with tribal communities and understanding their socio-economic conditions.
The main objective of the camp was to provide students with field exposure and practical experience in working with marginalized tribal populations. It also aimed at creating awareness among the community on key issues such as health, hygiene, education, and government welfare schemes.
During the camp, students conducted baseline surveys to understand the living conditions, education levels, health status, and livelihood patterns of the tribal population. Based on the findings, several activities were organized, including street play, health awareness programs, sanitation drives, educational sessions for children, and group discussions with community members.
Special emphasis was given to tribal welfare schemes, women empowerment, and child development. Students also interacted with local leaders and stakeholders to understand the challenges faced by the community and explored possible intervention strategies.
The collaboration with DEEDS Organization facilitated better community participation and coordination. The camp helped students develop skills in communication, community organization, teamwork, and problem-solving.
Overall, the camp was a valuable learning experience for students and contributed towards promoting awareness and community development among tribal populations in the region. Dr.Dhaneshwari Associate professor Dept of PG Studies and Research in Social Work and Dr.Athul.S Semitha Asst.professor Dept of PG Studies and Research in Social Work coordinated the event. Total 56 students from first year participated in the camp. Overall camp was facilitated by Dr.Srikanth NGO Director, DEEDS , Hunsur Taluk.
