The Extra-Curricular Committee, in association with the Theatre Centre of the college, presented the drama “Bendre Andre” at Pustaka Habba 2026, organized by Sahithya Kendra, Mangalore, at Sanganikethana Hall, Mannagudde, Mangalore, on August 16, 2026. The drama is based on the life and literary journey of Varakavi D. R. Bendre, the renowned Kannada poet and Jnanpith Award recipient. The production was inspired by the vision of the late Dr. B. Yashovarma and developed under the guidance of Mrs. Soniya Varma. The drama was created by Mr. Sadananda B. Mundaje and directed by Mr. Yashwanth Belthangady, with Mr. M. Madhan and Mr. Subramanya contributed to the music. Through an engaging theatrical presentation, the student artists brought alive the remarkable life, personality, and literary contributions of Bendre, reflecting their creativity, dedication, and passion for the performing arts.
The performance received an enthusiastic response from the audience and was appreciated for its meaningful theme, artistic presentation, and the impressive performance of the student artists. The event provided the students with a valuable opportunity to showcase their theatrical abilities on a wider platform while promoting appreciation for Kannada literature and culture. Mr. Praveena D., Drama In-Charge, accompanied the students and coordinated their participation and arrangements for the event. Dr. Padmanabh was also present during the performance and encouraged the student artists. The successful presentation of Bendre Andre at Pustaka Habba 2026 stands as another notable achievement of the SDM Theatre Centre, highlighting the college’s continued efforts to encourage creativity, cultural expression, and excellence in the performing arts.
