A special lecture program was organized at Sri Dharmasthala Manjunatheshwara (SDM) College here today to commemorate the literary and personal contributions of Prof. N.G. Patwardhan, a celebrated Kannada writer and former faculty member of the college. The program, jointly organized by the Kannada department of SDM College and the Dakshina Kannada District Sahitya Parishat, featured a keynote address by Prof. Patwardhan’s son, Dr. Kishor Patwardhan, a professor of Ayurveda at Banaras Hindu University, Varanasi.
Dr. Kishor Patwardhan highlighted his father’s emphasis on emotional writing, stating that Prof. Patwardhan prioritized writing that evoked emotions over intellectual writing. He also shared personal anecdotes, showcasing his father’s remarkable personality, which had a profound impact on those who knew him. The program was inaugurated by Dr. Satishchandra S., secretary of SDM Educational Institutions, who praised Prof. Patwardhan’s multifaceted talents as a writer, teacher, farmer, and musician. He encouraged students to draw inspiration from Prof. Patwardhan’s life and work.
SDM College Principal Dr. B.A. Kumar Hegde presided over the function and emphasized the importance of adopting Prof. Patwardhan’s positive attitude and simple personality. The program also featured lectures by Dr. T. Krishnamurthy, former principal of Sri Dharmasthala Manjunatheshwara Postgraduate Center, and Dr. Divakar K., Kannada professor at SDM College, who discussed Prof. Patwardhan’s literary achievements and contributions to the field of education. The event was attended by students, faculty members, and literary enthusiasts, who gathered to pay tribute to Prof. Patwardhan’s enduring legacy in Kannada literature and education.
