A poetry writing workshop titled “The Art of Crafting Poetry” was organized by the Kannada Department at SDM College, Ujire, today. Dr. Madhu Biradar, a young poet and Kannada professor from Hampanakatta University College, served as the resource person.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Biradar said, “Literature is like an ocean, and Kannada literature boasts a 2,000-year history. Understanding all of world literature in one lifetime is impossible. In literature, the emphasis we place on specific emotions is critical.” He highlighted how poets like Pampa, Ranna, and Kuvempu wrote about the Mahabharata but reflected the distinct political, social, and economic conditions of their times.
SDM College Principal Dr. B.A. Kumar Hegde inaugurated the event. In his address, he emphasized the simplicity of writing poetry: “Writing a poem is easy if one has sensitivity, empathy, and curiosity about events. When these feelings are expressed through words, they turn into poetry.” Dr. Diwakara Kokkad, Dr. M.P. Srinath, Dr. Rajshekhar, Bhavyashree, and Tejaswi were present at the event. The program was coordinated by Dr. Naganna D.A., and the head of the Kannada department, Dr. Bojamma K.N., welcomed the gathering. Students Ullaikha proposed the vote of thanks, while Himali M.P. hosted the event.
