Established in 2008
The Department, with its most conducive academic environment and learner centric approach, aims at providing an opportunity for two Post Graduate programs [M.Sc. Chemistry & M.Sc. Organic Chemistry] and Ph.D. The Department is recognized as Research Centre under Mangalore University.
Teaching & research are synergistic to each other in the department which attracts best students of different states. The department constitutes faculty expertise in frontier level of teaching and research in the field of coordination chemistry, analytical chemistry, bio-inorganic chemistry, bio-organic chemistry, organometallic chemistry, synthetic organic chemistry, polymer science, green chemistry, nano-chemistry and solid-state chemistry. Digital modes of learning are prioritized apart from practical and theoretical methods of learning. Curriculum involves student research projects.
Emphasis is given to value education, current affairs, certificate courses, student lecture series, skill enhancement programs and extension activities. The Department prioritizes on the employability by organizing student-industry interaction, pre-placement training, industrial visit and campus recruitment. The Department provides exposure to the students for their project work and internship at premier institution/industries.
The department’s commitment to fostering a superior research environment has facilitated the acquisition of multiple grants from major funding agencies like UGC, DST, VGST and KSTA for academic and research activities. Intellectual capital of the department is reflected in two US patents, one Australian patent and several publications emanated from faculty and students.

Association & Activities
  The Departmental Association: CONCHEM- Consortium of Chemists runs by students wherein they organize various activities to excel to end up in zenith career.
Highlights:
Conferences/Seminar/Workshop organized
Industry- Student Interaction
Industrial/Educational  visit organized
  Every year the  Department wishes to conduct one Industrial/Institutional visit for students  and the Department visited;
Inter/Intra college competition conducted
Student- Eminent Professor interaction programme
Faculties along with a team of students visit nearby schools to orient and create awareness about boons & banes of chemicals in daily life, also to inculcate cleanliness and 3R’s (Reuse, Recycle and Reduce) by various programs. In this connection, the Department conducts different activities at High schools of Belthangady Taluk to promote basic science among students.
    Highlights
Department of PG Studies and Research in Chemistry has vibrant research activities which includes basic frontier areas of research. The faculty works in synthesis, property examination and theoretical aspects of matter at molecular level. The funding for research comes from various government and private organizations. Current research spans the breadth of chemistry, including research in the areas of coordination chemistry, analytical chemistry, bio-organic chemistry, organometallic chemistry, synthetic organic chemistry and solid-state chemistry. Outcomes through reputed Journals and Books are holistically impacting the society and young researchers. Research collaboration with SDM Centre for Research in Ayurveda and Allied Sciences also boosts emerging of new vital ideas in interdisciplinary research.
