The Department of English, Department of PG Studies and Research in English and Research &Development cell in association with IQAC of SDM College (Autonomous), Ujire, jointly organized a one-day National conference on English and Social Sciences on the theme “Rewriting Society: Language, Literature and Social Transformation in the 21st Century ” on 27 February 2026.
The welcome speech was delivered by Prof. GR Bhat, IQAC Coordinator and Head of the Department of English. The conference was inaugurated by Prof. K Shripad Bhat, Visiting Professor, IIT Goa and Adjunct Professor of English, MAHE Manipal. The souvenir of abstracts was released by the Chief Guest for the event, Mr Veerendra PM, Advocate & Former Principal Correspondent Deccan Herald and The Hindu, Shivamogga. Other resource persons for technical sessions were Dr Rajalakshmi N K, Rtd. Former Head and Associate Professor of English, University College Mangaluru and Dr Al Muneera J, Associate Professor and Head of the department of English, Govinda Pai Memorial Govt. College, Manjeshwara Kerala. The inaugural function was presided over by Prof. Vishwanatha P, Principal of SDM College, Ujire. The seminar featured 3 technical sessions and 4 parallel sessions for the presentation of research papers. There were more than 50 research paper presentations on behalf of the conference from different parts of the country. The conference concluded with a Valedictory session, where the Chief Guest was Mr. Shashishekara N Kakathkar, Academic Coordinator, SDME Society Ujire.
