Ujire, July 18 — “Those aspiring for a career in media must uphold professionalism and ethics,” stated RJ Abhishek Shetty, Chief Programme Producer at Radio Sarang, speaking at the inauguration of the academic activities of ‘Lumos’, the student association of the B.Voc – Digital Media and Film Making Department of SDM College (Autonomous), Ujire.
Launching the activities for the academic year 2024–25, he noted, “In today’s digital age, media is at everyone’s fingertips. With smartphones, anyone can create content, which has led to a decline in the number of students enrolling in formal media courses. However, structured guidance remains essential for building a meaningful media career.”
Reflecting on his journey as a Radio Jockey, he emphasized that “no university teaches you how to talk. It’s a skill honed through continuous practice. Students must shape their identity using their unique communication abilities.”
Presiding over the event, Head of the Department Madhava Holla stressed that student associations and co-curricular activities are vital for personality development. “Such platforms must be actively utilized by students to showcase their skills,” he added.
Assistant Professor Indudhar Kini presented the annual report of ‘Lumos’ and administered the oath to the newly elected office bearers. Ankitha took charge as the President of the student association, Pavan Kumar as the Secretary, with Ashika and Lubna Maryam sworn in as class representatives of second and first year, respectively.
Assistant Professor Ashwini Jain welcomed the gathering, while Tejaswini R.S. proposed the vote of thanks. Akshita introduced the guest, and Rashmi compered the event.
