“Awareness about the Army and Nation is Vital,” says Retired Army Officer Dr. Gopalakrishna Kanchaodu
Ujire, July 26 — The 26th Kargil Vijay Diwas was solemnly commemorated at Sri Dharmasthala Manjunatheshwara (SDM) College, Ujire, in a joint event organized by the National Service Scheme (NSS) and National Cadet Corps (NCC) Army and Navy wings.
Dr. Gopalakrishna Kanchaodu, a retired Indian Army officer, inaugurated the event and addressed the gathering. He emphasized the importance of instilling national awareness and cultural values among the younger generation. “Understanding the army, the nation, and its heritage is crucial. The sacrifices and hardships faced by soldiers in defending the nation must be remembered and honored every moment,” he said.
Principal Dr. Vishwanatha P., who presided over the program, remarked, “Patriotism seems to be fading among today’s youth. Every service we render should contribute to the nation. We must never forget the efforts and sacrifices of over 30,000 soldiers who took part in the Kargil War 26 years ago.”
A floral tribute was offered to a portrait of Mother India, and a specially curated wall magazine dedicated to Kargil Victory, prepared by NCC cadets, was unveiled by Dr. Kanchaodu. On this occasion, he also handed over a copy of Kshamate, a book written by Aravind Chokkadi based on Dr. Kanchaodu’s military experiences, to the college library.
The event was attended by the college secretary, deans of various faculties, department heads, faculty members, NSS volunteers, and NCC cadets.
The program began with a welcome address by NSS Program Officer Dr. Mahesh Kumar Shetty H., and was compered by volunteer Sanusha Pinto. Lieutenant Dr. Bhanuprakash B.E., NCC Army Officer, delivered the vote of thanks.
