Ujire– Despite the availability of several schemes promoting organic farming, excessive reliance on chemical fertilizers and pesticides continues to cause severe damage to the environment, lamented civil engineer Jagadeesh Prasad.
Speaking after inaugurating the activities of the Botany Department, Sasyasourabha wall magazine, and the Eco Club at SDM College, Ujire, Prasad expressed concern over the growing environmental crisis. He noted that the use of chemicals reduces soil fertility, contaminates groundwater, and poses serious risks to life. “In the greed for money, man is destroying the very fertility of the land,” he said.
Botany Department Head Dr. Shakunthala highlighted the department’s initiatives. On the occasion, long-serving staff member Jinnappa, who retired after 34 years of service, was felicitated. Student representatives also took their oath of office.
