Guest Lecture on ‘Literature and Media Writing’ Held at SDM College

Ujire — A guest lecture on “Literature and Media Writing” was organized by the Department of Kannada at SDM College (Autonomous), Ujire, aimed at exploring the connection between literary knowledge and effective media communication.

Renowned journalist Rashmi Yadav K. was the resource person for the session. Addressing the students, she emphasized the importance of reading literature to enhance language proficiency and deepen understanding of life.

“Literature helps shape our thoughts and perceptions. The more literature we read, the more refined our writing and language skills become,” she stated. “In journalism, it is essential to have a background in literature. History shows that many great journalists were also avid readers of literature. Quoting poetry, philosophical ideas, or literary lines can give more depth and emotional impact to media writings,” she added.

Rashmi encouraged students to treat literature not just as a tool for writing but as a valuable guide for life. She explained how literary experiences contribute to a broader worldview and enhance critical thinking, which are essential for media professionals.

The session concluded with an engaging discussion among students on the forms and styles of media writing.

Dr. Rajshekhar Halemane, Assistant Professor and coordinator of the program, was present during the event. The program was compered by Ranganath, a second-year optional Kannada student, who also delivered the vote of thanks.
