Ujire, July 18 — A training program as part of the ‘Hasire Usiru’ (Green is Life) Thousand Trees Campaign was conducted at SDM Secondary School, Ujire. The initiative was organized jointly by the National Service Scheme (NSS) unit of SDM College, Ujire, the Rotary Club of Belthangady, and the ‘Baduku Kattona Banni’ team.
Dr. Mahesh Kumar Shetty H., NSS Program Officer of SDM College, outlined the details of the initiative. “Our NSS unit has consistently undertaken various community development programs. ‘Hasire Usiru’ is one such eco-friendly drive we have been conducting for several years. This year, more than 700 students will receive saplings for just one rupee each. They are encouraged to plant these in their home surroundings and send monthly photo updates to their teachers to ensure successful growth,” he said.
Prakash Prabhu, President of Rotary Club Belthangady, expressed concern over environmental degradation by the current generation. He urged students to take responsibility for preserving and nurturing nature for future generations.
Presiding over the program, SDM Secondary School Principal Suresh Kumar noted that the mechanized lifestyle of modern society has led to a lack of time and patience for activities like tree planting. He encouraged everyone to make an effort through such campaigns. “Do not grow plants merely for the sake of photos or videos. Cultivate the habit of nurturing plants with a selfless spirit,” he advised.
The event was attended by teachers, students, and NSS volunteers. The program was compered by NSS volunteer Nandini.
