“A sense of inquiry does not merely constitute knowledge. It makes the process of social progress precise. The pace of change will be as intense as the renewal” said The Secretary of SDM Educational Society Dr. Satheeshchandra S. He was speaking today while inaugurating a five-day Faculty Development Program organized by the College’s Research and Development Cell in collaboration with Department of Post Graduate Studies and Research in Psychology and Chemistry. Rapid shifts are happening in the education sector. These types of shifts clearly demonstrate that the educational arena is not limited to knowledge acquisition. Knowledge has to play a role in preparing students for the needs of a competitive world along with motivational and mentoring responsibilities. Above all, the knowledge imparted should shape students into responsible citizens. In this view, he said that research consciousness will help in expanding the possibilities of the educational sector, he added.
Dr. S. T. Bagalkoti, Registrar (Admin), Haveri University, Haveri was the Chief Guest and delivered keynote address. He said that “A sense of inquiry helps teachers adapt the curriculum to the current inquisitiveness of students in the classroom. It helps in presenting brand new concepts in the classrooms”. He explained how researchers in science, humanities and technical sectors can use the new technology of artificial intelligence.
The program was presided over by Principal of the College, Dr. B. A. Kumara Hegde. He said that “Every year constructive research activities are organized in the college, seed money facility for those who want to carry out research has been provided by the management. He stressed the teachers to attend workshops and programs so that it helps researchers.
Vice Principal Prof. S.N. Kakatkar, and Dean of Post Graduate Center, Dr. Vishwanath P. were also present. Director of Research and Development Cell Dr. Soumya B.P. welcomed the gathering. Dr. Vandana Jain, HOD of Psychology department presented vote of thanks and Dr. Nafeesath narrated the program.
Technical session 1: Ethics in researchProf. S. T. Bagalkoti
Dr. Bagalkoti focused mainly on ethical consideration, fabrication, falsification, Plagiarism and research misconduct. Each of these were explained in detail by the resource person. He mentioned few breaches in ethics happened in the past by famous personalities and stressed that, one should follow the ethics related to research and be honest with the field work experimental work. Dr. Maheshbabu, Assistant Professor, PG Department of Psychology chaired the session.
Parallel technical session 2 & 3: Research methods in Social science I & IIDr. Shripathi Kalluraya P.
Session was on sampling methods, need for sampling, sampling frame, sample and population. Basic information of research was discussed along with sampling methods and live examples are quoted throughout the session to make the session meaning full. Dr. Ganaraja K, Head, Department of Economics chaired the session.
Parallel technical session 2 & 3: Scientific research methodologies I & IIDr. Saikat Datta
The session was conducted by Dr Saikat Dutta associate professor in Chemistry, National institute of Technology Karnataka. The talk aimed to enhance the understanding of research methodologies among faculty members and researchers focusing on the objectives, principles, techniques and practices essential for conducting robust research.
Dr Saikat Datta stated during the session “A scientist sees a phenomenon and proceeds to find the answer why it happens’’ and the talk covered major aspects such as systematic approach to solving problems, types of research, method and methodology, characteristics of scientific research and sampling methods. After the tea break, the session resumed with renewed energy as Dr Saikat Datta continued to delve in to the topic “scientific research methodology”, further expanding the key concepts on Chemical sustainability from the perspective of a chemist on environment.
The talk on Research methodology was highly informative and well received by the audience. Participants gained deeper understanding of systematic approach required for conducting research and were equipped with practical knowledge that could be applied in their future research project. The session was chaired by Dr Nefisath P, Associate Professor, PG Department of Chemistry.
