Do Not Neglect Basic Science: Dr. Satishchandra S.

Ujire – “All major technologies we use today are rooted in basic science. Without knowledge of fundamental science, progress in any scientific field is impossible. Hence, basic science should never be neglected,” said Dr. Satishchandra S., Secretary of SDM Educational Society.
He was inaugurating a one-day workshop on “Molecular Mysteries and Quantum Secrets” held on September 17 at SDM College, Ujire. The event was jointly organized by the Department of Chemistry and the Karnataka State Council for Science and Technology as part of the International Year of Quantum Science celebrations.
Speaking as chief guest, Dr. Rahul S., Assistant Professor of Physics at PES University, Bengaluru, said quantum computing has already captured a major share in modern industries. He emphasized that understanding quantum science is possible only through a strong grasp of basic science, noting that current advancements follow the path laid down by earlier scientists.
Presiding over the programme, SDM College Principal Dr. Vishwanath P. observed that modern comforts are the fruits of scientific progress. He urged students to explore the wide opportunities in science and technology and to focus on research after higher studies.
Also present were Dr. Neelakanthan V.K., Head of the Physics Department at St. Aloysius College, Mangaluru, along with faculty and students.
Vice-Principal and Head of the Chemistry Department, Prof. Nandakumari K.P., welcomed the gathering. The event included a prayer led by students Apoorva and team. Assistant Professor Divya proposed the vote of thanks, while Anvita Sera, a second-year B.Sc. student, compered the programme.
