Diwali Celebrations at SDM Postgraduate Centre, Ujire

Ujire: The SDM College Postgraduate Centre, Ujire, celebrated the festival of Diwali with great enthusiasm on October 18. The celebrations included Saraswati, Lakshmi, Balyendrai, and Go Pooja, along with the worship of agricultural tools and books, symbolizing respect for knowledge and labor.
Chief guest Dr. Satishchandra S., Secretary of SDM Educational Society, addressed the students and explained the cultural and spiritual significance of Diwali. Principal Dr. Vishwanath P., who presided over the function, said that Diwali is celebrated with joy across the world, marking the return of Lord Rama, Sita, and Lakshmana to Ayodhya after 14 years of exile. Gifts were also presented to the college’s housekeeping and security staff on the occasion.
Prof. B. Shivaram Holle, retired Professor of Chemistry and former Head of the Department at the PG Centre, was present. Dr. Soumya B. P., Dean of the PG Centre, welcomed the gathering, while Dr. Dhaneshwari, faculty of Social Work and programme coordinator, proposed the vote of thanks. The event was compered by Tejaswini and Sudhiksha Jain, students of Journalism.
A traditional “Pilinalike” (Tiger Dance) was performed by the Dharmasthala Classic Tigers team, captivating the audience with energetic movements and stunts. Students from the SDM Kala Kendra presented Chende drumming and dance performances that added colour to the celebration. The event concluded with students bursting crackers and sharing sweets in festive cheer.
Faculty members, non-teaching staff, students, and invitees from various departments of the PG Centre and B.Voc. programmes attended the celebration.
