“Create Positivity About Counseling” – Seethalakshmi Kumar

Ujire – “Misconceptions about counseling must be removed, and a positive attitude towards it should be nurtured in society,” said Seethalakshmi Kumar, psychologist, corporate trainer, and Director of Emocare Pvt. Ltd.
She was speaking after inaugurating the activities of the Peace Association of the Department of Psychology at SDM Postgraduate Centre, Ujire, on September 23. Kumar noted that the very word “counseling” often triggers fear among people, preventing them from accepting it positively. “Students of psychology must take the lead in creating awareness about the importance of counseling and in changing this mindset,” she urged.
Highlighting its benefits, she said counseling provides emotional support, helps individuals understand their thoughts and behaviors, and plays a crucial role in overcoming anxiety, depression, and stress. With empathetic listening and guidance, counselors can foster personal growth and self-awareness, ultimately improving mental health.
On the occasion, student representative Keerthana Anand presented the annual report of the association. Peace Association Secretary Dr. Mahesh Babu N. was present. The programme began with a welcome by Jina and concluded with a vote of thanks by Nishan.
