Ujire – “The global plastic crisis must be solved by chemists, since they are the ones who created polymers and related compounds in the first place,” said Dr. Ravi Kumar Kanaparthi, Assistant Professor of Chemistry at the Central University of Kerala, Kasaragod.
He was speaking after inaugurating the 2025–26 activities of “ConChem” – the Chemists’ Association organized by the Department of Chemistry, SDM Postgraduate Centre, Ujire. Dr. Kanaparthi noted that while polymers and plastics have transformed modern life, their waste management has become a grave challenge. “It is therefore the responsibility of chemists themselves to find effective solutions,” he stressed.
Presiding over the programme, SDM PG Centre Dean Dr. Soumya B.P. said ConChem has been actively conducting seminars, workshops, career guidance sessions, internships, campus interviews, field visits, and outreach activities to enhance student skills and support their professional growth.
On the occasion, Dr. Kanaparthi also delivered a special lecture on chemical research. Student representatives were formally entrusted with their responsibilities by being presented with association badges.
ConChem Faculty Secretary Dr. Vasanth Kumar welcomed the gathering, Joint Secretary Dr. Narayan Hebbar proposed the vote of thanks, while students Vaishnavi P.U. and Farhan compered the event.
