Celebration of World Ozone Day 2025 and Community Awareness Drive

The Department of Chemistry, in association with Rovers and Rangers Unit of the college, celebrated World Ozone Day 2025 on 16 September 2025, with the theme “From Science to Global Action.”
The programme began with a special lecture by Dr. Krishnaprasad P. A., Associate Professor, Department of Civil Engineering, SDM Institute of Technology, Ujire, who served as the Chief Guest. In his address, he explained in detail the formation of ozone in the atmosphere, the causes and consequences of ozone depletion, the phenomenon of the ozone hole, and scientific methods used to measure the thickness of the ozone layer. His talk highlighted the vital role of ozone in protecting life on Earth and emphasized the need for collective efforts to safeguard it.
Following the session, the students of III B.Sc and Rovers and Rangers conducted a Community Awareness Drive. As part of this activity, students visited nearby houses and distributed pamphlets to raise awareness on important environmental issues such as ozone protection, water conservation, and reducing plastic usage. The drive aimed to connect science with society and encourage sustainable practices at the community level.
The programme was coordinated by Mr. Prasad Kumar and Dr. Ganavi D., Staff Coordinators of the Rovers and Rangers Unit, under the guidance of Ms. Nanda Kumari K. P., Vice Principal and Head, Department of Chemistry, SDM College, Ujire.
The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from staff and 80 students, who pledged their commitment to protecting the environment and promoting eco-friendly practices.
