The Department of Chemistry organised a Career Orientation Programme on Higher Education and Employment Opportunities in Physical and Biological Sciences for B.Sc final year students on 19th July 2022. Prof. Ronald Pinto, Director, Institute for Individual Development, Mangaluru, was the resource person. “The BSc degree in physical and biological sciences is very valuable as 75% IAS and 70% CAT examination rank holders are from a science background,” said Prof. Pinto. He motivated the students to take up higher studies after graduation as higher education gives better employability and salary in various fields like teaching, research, industry, etc. He explained in detail the M.Sc courses available in Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics/Statistics, Electronics and Computer Science and general courses like B.Ed., B.P.Ed., LLB, and MCJ. He also touched upon the All India Biological Institutes, where students can pursue higher studies related to Biotechnology, Biochemistry, Food Technology, Bioinformatics, Biophysics, etc. Prof. Pinto urged students to take entrance examinations conducted by prestigious Institutes like TIFR, ICAR, CFTRI, IISc, IITs, etc. The students interacted with Prof. Ronald Pinto and clarified their doubts. About 140 students got benefited from this programme.
