SDM College in Ujire hosted an awareness program on blood cancer and the importance of blood stem cell donation. The event, held on August 27, was organized by the college’s National Service Scheme (NSS) units in collaboration with the Social Responsibility Initiative Committee and the DKMS-BMST Foundation India. Rohith Rajeev, an associate from DKMS-BMST Foundation India, delivered an informative session on the foundation’s mission and objectives. He provided valuable insights into blood cancer and the significance of stem cell donation.
Dr. B.A. Kumar Hegde, Principal of SDM College, presided over the event. He emphasized the importance of blood donation, stating, "Human blood is the only match for human blood. Life is a continuous struggle for existence, and one of the major challenges in this struggle is battling diseases like cancer. Blood stem cell donation is a noble act that can save lives, particularly for those suffering from blood cancer." The program also included a registration drive for blood stem cell donors, encouraging participants to contribute to this life-saving cause.
The event was attended by NSS program officers Dr. Mahesh Kumar Shetty H. and Deepa R.P., along with Social Responsibility Initiative Committee member Harini. NSS volunteers Manya K.R. welcomed the gathering, Sanusha Pinto delivered the vote of thanks, and Preethi R. compered the event.
