Youth Resorting to Extreme Measures for Trivial Reasons is Painful

Assistant Commissioner of Police for Mangalore North Zone and SDM PU College alumnus, Manoj Kumar Nayak, expressed deep concern over the tendency of youth to take extreme measures for trivial reasons. Speaking at the inauguration of the Students’ Council and various Student Activity Fora for the 2024-25 academic year at Sri Dharmasthala Manjunatheshwara Autonomous College, he highlighted the distressing trend of young people reacting drastically to minor setbacks.

Nayak emphasized the importance of learning to cope with failure and stress, saying, "Failure in exams or not getting a phone from parents are not the end of the world. It is painful to see youngsters resorting to actions like suicide over such small issues." Dr. Satishchandra S., Secretary of SDM Educational Institutions, addressed the gathering as the chief guest. He noted that leadership is not confined to politics but is crucial in all aspects of life. He encouraged students to develop leadership qualities through their involvement in student councils.

College Principal Dr. B.A. Kumar Hegde, who presided over the event, administered the oath to the student council office bearers. He explained that the student council at SDM College operates uniquely to foster mutual love and trust among students, free from political influences, following the vision of former principal Dr. B. Yashovarma. During the event, the journalism students’ practical newspaper ‘Chiguru’ and a wall magazine featuring photographs of the inauguration were released. ACP Manoj Kumar Nayak was also honored on this occasion.
