Department of Biotechnology

The Department of Biotechnology, established in 2007, is a leading centre for postgraduate study and research. It currently offers an M.Sc. in Biotechnology program and Ph.D. The Department is recognized as Research Centre under Mangalore University. The Department received significant recognition in 2017 when it was selected as a premier institution to offer the Post Graduate Diploma in Fermentation and Bio Processing under the BiSEP initiative, supported by the Department of Biotechnology (DBT) and the Government of Karnataka’s Department of IT, BT & Science & Technology.
The program’s updated curriculum and advanced laboratory facilities provide students with a strong foundation in scientific learning and practical skills. This expertise prepares graduates for diverse career paths across industries like healthcare, agriculture, forensics, industrial processing, and environmental management. The Department actively contributes to conservation through its Plant Tissue Culture Laboratory, which is dedicated to the micropropagation of endangered medicinal plants. Furthermore, the realistic and applied approach in Genetic Engineering, Molecular Biology, and Bioinformatics directly addresses current industry demands.

Well-equipped laboratory with highly sophisticated instruments, dedicated & experienced faculties constantly pursuing extramural funding from national funding resources such as the DBT, VGST, UGC, DST and KSCST and other major sources from State Government and Government of India.
Good placement record over the years. MoU’s with various industries and Industrial Visits to boost student’s experimental and technical knowledge.
