Sri D Ratnavarma Heggade Memorial Mangalore University Level Debate Competition was held at the college on 5 June 2023. Inaugurating the competition, Dr B P Sampath Kumar, Managing Director, Excellent Education Foundation, Mudubidiri, opined, ‘Extraordinary work can be made possible by a broad mindset with vision. A solution to the needs of the present world should be found with such broad-mindedness.’ Dr B A Kumar Hegde, Principal of the College presided over the inauguration and said that the art of communication is very great in the present world and it helps in the development of leadership qualities along with personality building.
Teams from 15 colleges of Mangalore University debated on ‘Implementation of strict laws is the way to prevent crimes’. Ms Anusha and Mr Chetana, both second-year BA students at Udipi Purnaprajna College, won first place, earning Rs. 10,000 in cash, a trophy, and a rolling trophy. Mr Manjunath and Mr Harish, third-year BA students at Vivekananda College in Puttur, lifted the runners-up trophy, earning Rs 8,000 in cash.
Sri M Y Harish, Executive Director of SDME Society, Ujire, as the chief guest at the award ceremony handed over the prizes and the trophies to the winning teams. Ms Pranamya and the team prayed. Dr Diwakara Kokkada Assistant Professor welcomed, and Sri R Mahesh narrated the programme. College Literary and Cultural Committee Coordinator Dr Sudhir K V coordinated the programme.
